Vermont has a variety of solution caves in small to medium size pockets of marble of varying ages and degrees of metamorphism. One of the largest pockets of marble is in the Dorset Mountain area, where the famous quarries are located and dozens of small to medium size caves exist. Several groups of diggers are active, many are members of the Vermont Cavers Association, an NSS grotto that meets regularly and publishes a newsletter.
